Check valves safeguard the quality of drinking water by protecting faucets, valves and plumbing systems from unwanted backflow, back pressure or back siphonage of polluted service water into the potable water supply.
They also prevent potentially dangerous cross-connection flow in thermostatic mixers, i.e. hot water cannot get into the cold water pipes and vice versa.
